“Resist Being Depressed And Recognize That You Are Blessed”

Part One

12/11/17

As the Christmas Season is upon us, there should be a whole lot of excitement in the air. Not so much about the commercialization part of it but about the true meaning of it, which is Christ and His Miraculous and Amazing Birth here on Earth. Because man has tried and is still trying his best to commercialize it so, there are some people who hate to see it come and they are glad when it goes. As Born-Again Believers, we shouldn’t ever feel that way and we won’t if we stayed focused on the true meaning of Christmas. How sad it is for some people that this has become a time of the year when they become Lonely, Gloomy, and Depressed. One of the main and primary reasons is because their focus is not on the real and true meaning of Christmas. You see, it was for us but Christmas is really not about us. It’s about Christ. We are to celebrate His Birth and His coming into the world. The truth is, without Christ there would be no Christmas (Christmas). Normally, when it’s somebody’s birthday, we celebrate them and the fact that it’s their birthday. Our focus is on them and possibly getting and giving them something. So the truth is that we should not make Christmas about us but about Christ and His Birth. You may be going through something during this time. You may have some not so good memories of something that happened during this time of the year. You may miss love ones who have gone on. Regardless of it all, because of the Gift of Jesus Christ, when you Recognize That You Are Blessed, you can Resist Being Depressed. Don’t even let it enter in from this year and on into the future years. I’m just getting started on this subject matter. Tune in for more next week via Part Two.

“Resist Being Depressed And Recognize That You Are Blessed

Part Two

12/18/17

As I continue with this subject matter, “Resist Being Depressed And Recognize That You Are Blessed”, it is something that we must have determination to do.  In doing so, we must continue to focus on the true meaning of Christmas.  Some of the things that will really help us would be to not only consistently spend time in prayer but to consistently spend time in God’s Word.  In light of this matter of prayer, please note that there’s power in prayer.  Prayer not only changes things but it changes people.  Of course it is God who is at work in answering our prayers when we are in fellowship with Him.

In regards to spending time in God’s Word, this is also one of the main ways that God speaks to us.  There is nothing that we will ever face in life that the Word of God can’t handle.  There is also power in the Word of God.  Then too, when we read about the Birth of Christ in the Word of God, this helps to reinforce in us the true meaning of Christmas.

Doing these two things are so vitally important because when Depression tries to enter in especially during this time of year, people tend to want to isolate and separate themselves from everybody.  (Read 1 Kings 19) This is the same thing that Elijah did when Jezebel wanted to kill him.  By the power of God, he had just called down fire on Mount Carmel and destroyed false prophets.  Yet after hearing a negative threat from Jezebel, he runs away and because of being full of Depression he comes to the point that he wanted to die.  He eventually ends up hiding in a cave where he spent the night.  God asked him what he was doing in the cave.  Elijah thought he was the only prophet/servant of God left.  This certainly wasn’t the case.

You have to be careful when you get Depressed because your very thinking and logic can become detorted and irrational.  If not careful, you begin to think negative thoughts and make unwise decisions.  This is what Satan want you to do because he want your life to be cut short so you will not fulfill all of your God given purpose in life.  Praise God that He not only sent an Angel to Elijah but God’s Himself spoke to Elijah.  God had more work for him to do.  He had more purpose for his life just as he does ours.

In closing, Satan wouldn’t be trying to attack you with Depression and other things if you were not a threat to him, his agenda, and kingdom.  We must stay prayed up and stay in the Word of God.  This will certainly help us to stay focus and not faint.  However, if you are under attack or battling with Depression, God can restore you and lift you out of it.  Again, I encourage you to “Resist Being Depressed And Recognize That You Are Blessed”.  Take some time today and began to just count your blessings.
